THE GAME

Bite Me! is a vampire drama larp about navigating changing times. This year, because of the pandemic and the size restrictions of our location in relationship to it, we are limiting the number of participants and are focussing on a Japanese language game.

If we get 10 english speakers on the waiting list, we will consider hosting an alternative event. If we do not get enough players at this event, we will make it bi-lingual and will open the game to dominantly english speakers as well, hosted on October 23rd from 5 to 10 pm.

Feel free to write to us at: questkansaiadventure@gmail.com after reading below!

If you speak Japanese and would like to sign up click on 日本語

above. If you would like to encourage us to host an english language event, click on ”waiting list” above.

Tickets are 5000 yen. This includes 1 drink, 1 antigen covid test, fruit, and an individual crafted character based on your interests.

(For folks who are vaccinated, tickets are 4000 yen.)

  • Seduction scenes or any physical touch whatsoever

  • Any play on sexual harassment / abuse

  • “Play to win” aggressive styles of gaming

  • Alcohol consumption during the play times

Code of Conduct

  • We as organisers of this game will represent and enforce a certain set of rules in order to ensure the safety of everyone involved. We ask you to read it carefully before signing up:

  • As organisers, we retain the right to refuse service to anyone without the necessity to give a reason. We are a non-profit team that is doing this on our own time - and as such, we will refuse participation if we deem it necessary for the safety of our participants and the event.

  • We retain the right to send out a list of all planned participants via email to each participant displaying everyone's full name. This is to ensure player safety.

  • We retain the right to remove participants from our event at any time without a refund of their ticket should the respective participant do any of the following:

  • Compromise the emotional or physical safety of other participants at the event (or online), themselves, or the location of the event.

  • Act against our Code of Conduct or the policies of the event in question.

  • Refuse to follow crew instructions.

  • Break local law.

  • By signing up for our event, all participants agree that their picture may be taken by the event's photographers. These pictures may be used by the photographers, the event organisers, both privately and for marketing purposes. These will be also shared with an American Larp company, the Game Theater, who may use it for their commercial advertising.

What Lies in Wait?

  • A bloodthirsty society of vampire families.

  • A political summit thick with espionage, social play, and even board games.

  • A focus on family relations and personal choices within them

  • Pre-written family relations and room to shape your character within them

    • You are encouraged to make relations of your own as well.

    • All characters are written without regard to gender, except for the Royalty who will be referred to as “The Queens”.

  • A blend of organiser & player-motivated plot

    • We encourage co-creativity and players telling stories on their own initiative as well as providing plot and world building themselves.

    • Emotionally rich plots to play

    • This may include consensual play on abuse, asymmetrical power relations, emotional & physical violence and inhumane moral standards

  • Workshops on game rules & themes, safety mechanics and vampire etiquette

  • Play to Lift, co-creative play & “Yes, and…”

  • Precautions for covid, including wearing masks.

    • We have reserved the open-air roof for loud, group activities, and close roleplay moments. However a number of activities during the event will occur in a relatively poor ventilated inside space.

  • 2 free drinks included in the ticket

    • There is food available for purchase, some of which is vegetarian friendly.

  • No alcohol consumption during play

    • Controlled alcohol consumption outside of playing times is allowed.

  • Free use of the board games!

  • A costume contest.

  • An optional postgame dance and “cool-down” discussion.

  • To be photographed during the game

    • You can of course ask the photographer not to be. We cannot guarantee it. These photos will be used for the organizer’s private and Quest Kansai’s public use. These photos will be shared with the Game Theater, an American Larp company.

  • A serious respect of participants’ and organisers’ emotional safety.

OUR TIES:

How does family, ambition, and betrayal connect us all? Blood.

We have chosen to power this game with mechanics of The Game Theater's Aces and Operative's engine to encourage deep espionage. The game is also inspired by Undying by Paul Riddle.

Although the game is structured with specifically crunchy mechanics that define the flow of the event (as described below), true play is the emotional and narrative moments between the players. Build your narrative through the character relations you build or break and keep it engaging for everyone around.

During play, each player will cast three votes that determine the flow of a narrative.

During play, players will bargain, trade, and gamble red “blood” tokens that determine who becomes the new Royalty after the end of the story. The Queens vote to banish who they are convinced is a traitor at the end of the evening.

Our World

The Families

Before the game begins you will be sorted into a vampire family symbolically via the playing card you receive in your player envelope. If you come with a buddy you will join the same family.

Spade - You feed on those who need care. Your haunt is a private hospital.

Hearts - You feed on those who need love. Your haunt is a host club.

Clubs - You feed on those who need freedom. Your haunt is a punk rock night club.

Diamonds - You feed on those who need money. Your haunt is an exploitative company.

The Hierarchy

All families have a three tier hierarchy of power and respect:

Royalty: Queens are the heads of the families. Queens have convened this summit of family in order to weed out the traitors among us. They have an extra scene and banish the traitors at the end of the night.

Aces are in line for power and perform risky missions.

Jacks are freshly turned and still stink of humanity.

The Rebellion

Not all are satisfied with the status quo. If you also receive a Joker at the beginning of play, you are also a revolutionary/traitor. You play to bring down the families you are a part of. In the setting, one family has already been destroyed.

"Who are you

Wearing?"

There will be a costume contest held by the organizers for the baddest vamp in the brood. Come in any style of dress you can imagine a vampire might wear: punk, kafkaesque, moe, grunge, kaishya-in.

Some inspiration:

One requirement this year: WEAR A MASK (preferably one that is both protective and stylish)!

Suggested (and totally optional) elements this year are:  hair pieces, gloves, the color purple.

Budget Transparency

This is a non-profit volunteer run event. The cost for the ticket covers our roof booking (1500 yen), the price of drinks (1000 yen), and the use of the board games (500 yen). Other costs include supplies and the photographer (500 yen). Any remaining proceeds will go to covering costs in the next Quest Kansai event.

No. This venue has steep stairs that are reminiscent of ladders, that are even challenging for able-bodied people.
